Come from TCM and work only with application of pressure and brushing over the skin.
While for acupressure only the fingers are used, acupuncture uses metal needles.
Acupressure:
Acupressure is performed by soft brushing over the skin along the meridians and thus stimulates the flow of energy. The stimulation of only small spots on the body can affect inner organs that are quite far away from these spots. The main stimulation spots for nausea can for example be found on the forehead just above the eyebrows.
Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a very important therapy in TCM and describes the invasive, therapeutic application of stimulation on selected spots of the body. This is achieved through the application of needles and has different effects according to the spot, the strength of the needle and the way the needle is applied a specific energetic effect on the body.
The traditional Chinese medicine thought model states that the surface of the body is ranged with energetic lines, the so called meridians. The energetic lines connect the organs and its functions to each other and to the surface of the body.
Along the meridians flows the Qui, the vital energy, which can be stimulated by acupuncture. Because in TCM the inner organs are not solely defined according to the anatomy of the body but rather by its functions in relation to the energetic system, which surpasses the idea of physiology in western medicine, they are referred to as functional circles.
Like the Tuina-therapy, acupuncture can be used on different levels.
The full efficiency of acupuncture can only unfold when it is embedded in the traditional Chinese medicine and when the treatment is based on an according anamnesis.
It is very efficient when treating syndromes of pain especially in combination with the Tuina-massage. A lot of chronic and functional diseases can be treated with acupuncture.
